WARSAW — Warsaw's LSC Communications plant on Old Road 30 will close this September.

InkFreeNews was made aware of the closure and impending layoffs by multiple readers who work at the location.

According to a notice employees received the morning of Tuesday, June 6, closing is expected to begin Sept. 10, with layoffs set to occur between Sept. 10 and 24.

About 500 workers are affected. LSC Communications closed two of its locations in Lancaster, Pa., due to shrinking demand for long-run printed catalogs and magazines.

Warsaw Mayor Joe Thallemer said a division director at LSC attributed the Warsaw plant's closure to similar reasons.

Pictured is a letter employees received this morning about the plant closure and layoffs.

"It's technology that is not in demand, the gravure printing process," said Thallemer. "Their sales and production were way down, and the company made the decision to close for that reason."

The city is working closely with the Kosciusko Economic Development Corporation, which will take the lead on working with LSC Communications to address the layoffs.

"The most important thing is to get those folks other employment," said Thallemer. "This is a very difficult process and our hearts go out to those affected."

Thallemer was also notified LSC Communications owners have already sold the buildings, with the location continuing to provide some type of industrial use.

According to Kosciusko County Beacon GIS, the buildings were sold April 12 for $13 million to Phoenix Warsaw Industrial Investors LLC, Milwaukee, Wis.
